How much is C-lium Fibre?
How much fiber do I need everyday?

The Philippine Department of Science and Technology – Food and Nutrition Research Institute recommends the intake of 20-25 grams of fiber each day, while the American Diatetic Association recommends about 20-35g for healthy adults. This is because a diet with adequate amounts of fiber is rich in micronutrients and can have a significant impact in the prevention of obesity, cardiovascular disease, and type 2 diabetes as well as constipation.

What precautions should be followed while using C-Lium Fibre?

Interactions with Drugs

Psyllium-containing products may delay gastric emptying time and reduce the absorption of some drugs. It is advised that drugs be taken at separate administration times from psyllium to minimize potential interactions (for example, two hours before or a few hours after taking psyllium). Although no effect on warfarin levels with co-administration of psyllium was reported in one study, administration of these agents should be separated until better research is available. Due to potential reductions in blood sugar levels caused by psyllium, requirements for insulin or other diabetes drugs in diabetic patients may be reduced. Blood glucose levels should be closely monitored, and dosing adjustments may be necessary. Other drugs may be affected by psyllium like anticoagulants, antidepressants, anti-gout agents, anti-inflammatory agents, diuretics, salicylates, tetracyclines, nitrofurantoin, insulin, lithium and digoxin. People should discuss these matters with their physicians before taking psyllium.

Interactions with Herbs and Dietary Supplements

Psyllium-containing products may delay gastric emptying time and reduce the absorption of some herbs, supplements, vitamins, or minerals. Absorption of calcium, iron, zinc, and vitamin B12 may also be affected. Other agents should be taken one hour before or a few hours after psyllium to avoid potential interactions. Psyllium should be used cautiously with other laxatives, such as senna, because effects may be increased. Psyllium and chitosan together may increase fat excretion in the stool. Theoretically, psyllium may reduce the absorption of anticoagulant herbs and supplements. However, no effect on warfarin levels by co-administered psyllium was found. Taking psyllium with herbs and supplements that alter blood sugar may increase the risk of hypoglycemia (lowered blood sugar). People using other herbs or supplements that may alter blood sugar levels, such as bitter melon ( Momordica charantia ), should be monitored closely by their physician while using psyllium. Dosing adjustments may be necessary. Psyllium may interact with herbs and supplements with antidepressant, anti-gout, anti-inflammatory, and diuretic activities.

My elderly parents both suffer from constipation, is this common for senior citizens?

Constipation is a common complaint among senior citizens. As the body ages, the efficiency of the digestive system also declines. Reduced mobility also compounds the problem. Elderly people, as well as those convalescing from sickness, can find relief from increased fiber intake. Fiber supplements such as C-Lium Fibre make it easy to add high quality dietary fiber to one's daily diet, resulting in better digestion, elimination, and overall health.

Why is C-Lium Fibre helpful for diabetics or people who need to watch their blood sugar levels?

Diabetes is a condition in which the body cannot use glucose (blood sugar) properly because there is low production of insulin. C-lium Fibre aids in lowering blood sugar levels. It slows down the digestion rate to gradually release glucose much like a time release mechanism. The slower the digestion of carbohydrates, the slower the increase in blood sugar, the less insulin is needed and therefore, the result is a gradual drop in blood sugar levels.

How does C-Lium Fibre help maintain healthy cholesterol for a healthy heart?

C-Lium Fibre is a natural fat absorber that helps remove LDL "bad" cholesterol from the body while sparing HDL "good" cholesterol.

The body metabolizes cholesterol to synthesize bile acids for fatty food digestion. The psyllium husk soluble fibers in C-Lium Fibre binds with cholesterol in the bile acids and dietary cholesterol, which are then excreted in the stool. This continuous process helps lower blood cholesterol, which in turn reduces the risk of heart disease.

The American Heart Association, together with the USFDA, have allowed food manufacturers who add psyllium husk to their product (the ONLY ingredient in C-Lium Fibre) to make the following statement of claim: "Eating soluble fiber from foods such as psyllium husks as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, together with regular exercise, may reduce the risk of heart disease."
